Animated Ghostbusters Coming To Netflix

Netflix has announced a partnership with Ghostbusters production house, Ghost Corps, for a new animated series. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife team of Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan will be executive producers on the new series.

No details have been released about the series. It is unknown if we could see a continuation of the Real Ghostbusters series that ran for 140 episodes from 1986-1991. Or an update of the concept, like Netflix has done with other 80’s properties Voltron, Masters of the Universe, and She-Ra. It is also possible that the series could follow the characters from the recent Afterlife and Frozen Empire movies, or something else entirely.

Back at the 2022 Ghostbusters Day celebration, Jason Reitman had said that the Netflix series will “navigate an unexplored era and decade of Ghostbusters canon.” Looking at the previous movies and animated series, this could be anywhere from the 90’s to 2020’s. While all we have is speculation at this point, I am encouraged by what Gil Kenan has to say about the production. In an interview with A Trip To The Movies, Kenan said “I just watched an entire art presentation for the show. I’ve seen the sets and the environments, and I just saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team. All I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”
