Female Ghostbusters

Back Off Man, They’re Scientists

The long rumored, long awaited Ghostbusters 3 continues to be trapped in a development containment unit. Recently Bill Murray was making the rounds to promote his latest movie, St. Vincentat the Toronto International Film Festival when he gave an endorsement for a female cast of Ghostbusters to take over the franchise.

Speaking to the  the Toronto Star Murray said that he’s fine with the idea of a female cast of Ghostbusters. “I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits too,” he commented.  And who should the cast be? He would go on to suggest Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, and Linda Cardellini.  “Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!” He would also add, “I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”

McCarthy, who co-stars with Murray in St. Vincent, asked about being a Ghostbuster and she gushed, “Oh, my God, that’s daunting. That’s taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all.”

While it is only speculation at this point, since none of the ladies have been approached about taking on the roles, it may not be a far fetched idea. Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has been approached by Sony to take on the movie after original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman dropped out of the project. However, no formal negotiations have taken place. And Sony has not commented on the prospects of Feig taking on the franchise restart.
