Traveling to the past to find ideas continues to be a development plan as Hollywood continues reinventing the 80s. According to DeadlineJon M. Chu is in talks to direct a live-action Masters Of The Universe movie, based on the Mattel toy line, for Sony Pictures and Escape Artists. Chu has gained some experience with making movies from 80s toy lines. He is currently in the middle of a doing a 3D conversion, and shooting some new scenes on G.I. Joe: Retaliation for a March 29, 2013 release by Paramount.

Launched in 1981, Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam, who has the ability to magically transform into the warrior He-Man. Along with his comrades, The Masters, He-Man fights to protect the fantasy world of Eternia from the sinister Skeletor and his horde. The Masters franchise is commonly called He-Man after the main character, and the incredibly popular toy line gave birth to multiple anaimated TV series, and a flop of a live-action movie in 1987.

Escape Artists has a script by the writing team of Alex Litvak (The Three Musketeers and Five Against A Bullet) and Mike Finch (Exclusively Yours). Escape Artists’ partners Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing.
