Walking Dead Spin-Off TV Series

The Walking Dead

The Zombie Apocalypse Spreads

AMC is looking to expand the television world of The Walking Dead. The cable channel is developing a The Walking Dead spin-off that will be a “companion series” to it’s hit zombie apocalypse show. Robert Kirkman, the series creator as well as writer/creator of The Walking Dead comic book series that the TV show is based on, will serve as an exec producer on the spin-off along with Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.

“Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said AMC president Charlie Collier in a statement. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

Kirkman is excited about the prospects for the spin-off. “After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

The spin-off is being looked at for a 2015 premiere. While you’re waiting for that, you can get your fix of zombie action when Season 4 of The Walking Dead premieres on Oct. 13 on AMC.

Walking Dead Season 4 Preview

Defend Or Run

AMC premiered footage from the upcoming fourth season of The Walking Dead. The series regulars will be joined by new survivors this season, and it looks like the prison may not be as safe as they had hoped.

Season 4 of The Walking Dead premieres Sunday, 10/13 at 9 PM on AMC.

Along with the preview clip, the show’s stars and creators shared some info on what’s in store for the characters next season:

  • Andrew Lincoln (Rick) on the Woodbury survivors joining the group: “When we meet them all in Season 4, there is a whole new community in the prison and friction between certain characters. It makes for incredible character-driven scenes.”

And on Rick’s relationship with son, Carl: “Rick seeing turning into a sociopath at the end of the season woke him up to his parenting duties. You find Rick in a completely different place this season.”

  • Creator Robert Kirkman: “The world is getting worse, the people are getting more ragged, and it’s going to keep progressing, if you can believe that.”

And on the Governor: “All bets are off with the Governor. How he returns is going to be a mystery of the next season.”

  • David Morrissey, who plays the Governor, on whether he thinks the character is completely evil: “I mean, he went off with two of them; he didn’t kill them all. So, you’ve got to give him that.”
  • Norman Reedus on Daryl: “Without Meryl around, he can find this sense of self-worth that he never had before.”
  • Chad Coleman on his character: “On a certain level, Tyreese is still trying to figure out how he fits in and what are the rules of engagement for him.”
  • Scott Wilson on the motivation of his character, Hershel: “I think he just wants to hold on to his other leg.”

The Walking Dead Risk and Monopoly Editions

Walking Dead Board Games

USAopoly and Skybound Entertainment have released more details about the gameplay for MONOPOLY: The Walking Dead Survival Edition and RISK: The Walking Dead Survival Edition games being offered exclusively through Diamond Comic Distributors.

RISK: The Walking Dead Survival Edition

In RISK: The Walking Dead Survival Edition (APR132230, $49.99) it’s a fun, new twist on classic Risk game play.  USAopoly will debut a brand new map set in the southeast region of the United States where players battle and scavenge for their very lives. Players vie to be the dominant group of survivors in a post apocalyptic world infested by the undead. Contending for survival at every turn, gamers must not only fend off attacks from the living who compete for precious, limited resources upon which their survival depends, but they also must maintain their self-preservation from the unrelenting hordes of the undead that would feast upon them.

  • Zombies, referred to in The Walking Dead as “walkers,” will populate areas of the map and will continue to randomly spawn at the start of each players turn. Spawning escalates at the start of each round providing increased danger for the players. When walkers spawn into an occupied territory the combat resolves immediately.
  • A deck of “Event” cards. At the start of each players turn, in addition to spawning walkers, an event card must be drawn and read aloud. These cards reference story events from The Walking Dead canon and provide players with challenges with potential rewards and penalties and create more overall suspenseful interaction.
  • A new deck of “Supply Cards” will add strategy, fun and flavor to this classic tabletop game.
  • The game duration mirrors that of RISK: 2210 in that the game ends and scoring occurs after a period of time and not with one player controls every territory. This speeds up game play and minimizes the duration an eliminated player is “out of the game”. However, the ability to play classic RISK and the corresponding rules will be provided.

Gamers can expect a fast-paced game of attrition and survival in RISK: The Walking Dead Survival Edition, where this time — the last man standing wins!

MONOPOLY: The Walking Dead Survival Edition

Despite its post-apocalyptic setting, MONOPOLY: The Walking Dead Survival Edition (APR132229, $39.99) delivers classic Monopoly wheeling and dealing game play.  Players vie for, and then must fortify, the prime real estate and resources that will sustain their lives. There’s only one victor that will outlast the others – whether living or undead — when all is said and done. This completely customized game features six collectible tokens, optional speed play and a fight to the finish!

The standard Monopoly pieces are given a unique spin to fit the world of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.
